Since we are planning on buying a 10-year old boat in ten years, we thought it would be great to go to the Annapolis Sailboat show and see them new. That way we'd be able to see the models, take some notes, and then decide what boats would suit us best. This show is huge and Annapolis is a great town! I wanted to find out if we were more inclined to go with a catamaran, mono-hull, and what size would suit us best.
We really liked the catamaran's for live-aboard but don't think these are the best boats for making passages. They are certainly comfortable, but lots of $$. The Leopard 39 was nice and we REALLY liked the Lagoon 39. A new Lagoon 39 goes for $400k. A ten-year old boat would still be far out of our price range. Here's some of the cats:
Now the mono-hulls are really nice too. We really gravitated towards the Jeanneau's. Made in America. The 41' would be great and the 44' would really be luxury. I could really picture myself on the helm of one of these:
The question for my wife after the weekend was are you more, less, or equally inclined to go cruising after taking in the sailboat show. The answer, more inclined! We are continuing to move forward with trying to feed the boat kitty and establish some investments for repeat income. Time to skimp and save!
