Island Hopping to the Caribbean
This book has a lot of useful information for the Cruiser. Practical information on how to get mail, pay your bills, etc. Also interesting information on the Author's cruise. Some story telling, but for me more of a practical guide. Worth your time.
A Gentleman's Guide to Passages South
Everyone calls this book the "Bible" for the Thorny Path. It does have lots of useful information but I found it to be a difficult read. The Author is also quite arrogant in his assertions about his way or the highway. It was also hard to put the information together to determine how to sail a safe passage. Detailed information on weather patterns. I'm going to have to reread this to see what I'm missing to determine if it's really the must buy everyone says it is.
A Sail of Two Idiots
This has been my favorite book so far! The book is interesting, has lots of useful information, and gives you a sense of the cruising lifestyle. A little too much on their boat problems, but the Author moves it to the end of the Chapters if you don't want to read the gory details.
An Embarrassment of Mangoes
The beginning started out strong with passage information but then quickly turned into a cook book. It's well written however and goes into great detail about the Author's extended stays on several islands. Not a must for me, but if you enjoy reading about life while being at extended anchorage (and need cooking recipes) this could be the book for you.
