Ruth and I launched the boat back into Lake Nockamixon yesterday. What a beautiful day! Sunny with highs in the upper 70's. There was even a little bit of breeze on the lake , 12+ knots. A total of 8 boats were launched yesterday although the marina was still not even half full.
Our typical launch day starts with checking the lights on the trailer and hooking up the boat. We usually stop for breakfast on the way out to the lake. The total drive time is about 35 minutes depending on the drive through Quakertown. Next step is to raise the mast and get things together. I seem to always miss something before I step the mast and this year I ended up looking up at the end of the halyard (rope that connects to the sail for you landlubber) that I needed to hoist the sail. There is a temporary line that we install to reach the end. So, it's lower the mast and do it again.
After the sails are up and rigging checked, it's just launch the boat. I'm really bad at backing in the trailer so it took 3 tries to get it right. There aren't many places to practice and I won't do it again until the fall. Luckily, the ramp there is not busy. Then we sailed up the lake a bit and returned her to the slip. We have until the last day of October to pull the boat.
In two weeks we'll be back and will do the official renaming ceremony. Looking forward to a great year of sailing!
